W.i.t.Ch.

W.i.t.Ch. is a product of the Vienna folk music scene and of the Irish and French folk sessions in Vienna.

W.i.t.Ch. played in public for the first time in autumn 1997. After successful debut concerts, they started to perform regularly in Vienna’s live-music venues and in Lower Austria.

The first CD 'Cuvée' was successfully launched in June 2001 which is the first official release of Heurekord. In April 2003 W.i.t.Ch. performed as a support band of Hoven Droven in Vienna (Szene Wien) and took part in the 'long night of the music' in Vienna in June. Several times W.i.t.Ch. was invited to festivals in Italy and Germany. In 2004 W.i.t.Ch. recorded their life CD 'Warte, Mädchen' .

Music

  • W.i.t.Ch. have a diverse sound: wild romantic, fresh and modern at the same time and all roots in European traditional music. Mystic, easy-living and melancholic melodies are collected, mixed with original stuff and interpreted in a new way. This creates a genre that is best described with the term "European world music".
  • While in the beginning the repertoire was dominated by Irish, Scottish and French music, W.i.t.Ch. have visited almost all of Europe's regions in the meantime. Recently the traditional music of Eastern Europe has become a great inspiration.
  • The main pool of instruments fiddle, flute, guitar and percussion (bodhrán, darabuka, djembe) has grown considerably: various bagpipes, tin whistle, numerous percussion instruments, alto flute and piano accordion add new timbre to the typical W.i.t.Ch. sound.
  • Something that really makes W.i.t.Ch. stand out is their singing in parts and the number of languages they sing in: Meanwhile the witches sing in more than 10 languages and each of them has solo songs in the repertoire.
